I just found out that music site AbsolutePunk has shut down
As always, I am late to the party. In this case, it's not a party. Just news. I had no idea that AbsolutePunk, the alternative music website that I used to frequent back in my college days, had shuttered back in April of this year. The website was a very early source of some of my music, back when downloading music was still all the rage and when finding new music actually took a lot of work scouring websites and forums. AbsolutePunk was a great resource for music reviews, high-resolution album covers (it was the best source for this, in my opinion), and band news before band's had their own Twitter and even website.
Jason Tate, the site's original founder, ended up buying the site back from SpinMedia and redirected all of the AbsolutePunk URLs to his new music venture Chorus.fm.
I guess finding out about this now says a lot about how I consume music and music news nowadays. After all, it's the realization that I had not visited AbsolutePunk for at least 8 months (if not more) and found myself surprised to see the site shuttered. I guess it's hard to be the music news source when every band is so fluent in social media now. Curious to see where this goes...
