Why is the Apple Magic Trackpad 2 so expensive?
I'm genuinely curious here. Can anybody really explain to me why the new Apple Magic Trackpad 2 costs $129 for the consumer? I mean, how much of that price goes back to Apple to recoup for R&D? And isn't some of that cost recouped from sales of any laptop with the Force Touch trackpad? Even looking at an iFixit Magic Trackpad 2 teardown reveals nothing more than a logic board and a giant battery.
My guess is that this product exists solely to sell more of the 1st generation Magic Trackpads. Comparatively, the original Magic Trackpad now seems like a steal while offering almost all of the same functions. Knowing Apple, I shouldn't really hold my breath for a sale on this new Magic Trackpad 2 any time soon. I can wish though. Definitely putting this on the watchlist.
