Revisiting The Million Dollar Homepage

Who remembers this? I honestly don't know if I've ever seen the entire filled version of The Million Dollar Homepage but I do remember seeing it a lot when it first launched in 2005. Back then, its creator, Alex Tew, used it as a clever way to sell advertising space to help pay for his college education. The gist was that anybody could pay him $1/pixel in 10x10 blocks with a grand total of available pixels being 1 million. At the time, it was hard to conceive that this idea would ever fly but it did -- and about a year later, Alex became a millionaire (and more!) just by selling pixels to people who wanted to become a part of internet history.

Today, the site still stands. A colorful reminder of the internet past...
