Kina Grannis' 100 Days In Jakarta
I heard a few things about this whole debacle earlier this year when Kina Grannis posted a photo of her passport in hand on Instagram. I remember a few days before that I was just randomly thinking about how I hadn't seen her post a cover or a new song on YouTube for a while which made me wonder where she was. It turns out, as she writes in a tell-all post on her website, that she (and her band) were held in immigration limbo in Jakarta at the end of last year for 100 days. A terrible combination of bad luck, terrible planning on the part of her tour promoters, and chance.
For now, she's back at home, under some sort of probation from Jakarta that takes place in the US (How do they do that? That seems weird). But regardless, she's safe, healthy, and back posting new music. This one above called "California" was just one of 2 songs she was able to write during this tumultuous time in her life, held captive in a way in a foreign country with no way to go home.
