Where New Yorkers Moved to Escape Coronavirus
This New York Times article charts out the locations that New Yorkers decided to go when the city went into lockdown. If you know your general NYC demographic and geography, you’ll instantly recognize that the breakdown centered mostly on upper middle class neighborhoods where the obvious expense of owning or traveling to another destination could be made without hesitation.
This map isn’t new though. New Yorkers who are on the up and up or who have been on the up and up often own another home elsewhere (think the Summer Hamptons crowds or the Montauk homeowners or the Martha Vineyards types and you’ll get the idea). Whether it’s coronavirus or just summer break, these maps always show how wealth has been so oddly distributed throughout NY.
Wondering if you’re living in one of those neighborhoods? Just check your street parking (HA! Street parking…) spaces on the weekends come this summer. If you’re finding a lot of empty spaces on your street, you might just live in a well off neighborhood.
