Construction Update: 168th Street Subway station is looking its worst

I don't go to this area much these days, so I was pretty sad when I stopped at the 168th Street Station along the 1 line and saw that the beautiful arched ceilings of the station were covered over. At first I thought it was permanent but the good news is that it's just temporary while repairs are made to the aging station.

At the moment, the beautiful ornamental lights are gone and replaced by work lights and the covered ceiling resembles the cut-and-cover method of Subway tunnel building. It's really jarring to see the station so covered up especially since this particular station was so spacious before.

Anyway, here's hoping the station goes back to normal soon. I miss the old beauty of it. And quite honestly, it's feeling really claustrophobic right now.
