2nd Avenue and E. Houston St. is a complete mess right now
I took these two photos a couple of days ago as I was riding on 2nd Avenue towards the Lower East Side. As I neared the intersection of 2nd Avenue and E. Houston, I realized that if I didn't ride my bike on the sidewalk, I'd get run over by a car. This intersection is currently a huge hazard to everyone! Pedestrians have to hobble back and forth between a half-completed road island on 2nd Avenue and a major construction site on the other side. This intersection was already dangerous to begin with as cars turning from 2nd Avenue onto E. Houston have always loosely followed the yield to pedestrians signal. And now, 2nd Avenue has literally been squished into a one-lane road with giant trucks finding it ever harder to make this turn or leave any room for pedestrians and cyclists at the crosswalk.
I don't know what the hell is going on here, but I hope it doesn't last long. I need this intersection back.
