Remembering NY: Gas station on Houston and Lafayette
Taking a stroll down memory lane to a not-so-distant past: Here is the BP gas station at the corner of Houston and Lafayette, taken in March 2016. Today if you walk on by, you'll be greeted by a huge dirt hole as construction begins on a multi-level luxury apartment complex. Fun times.
By the way, who remembers when this BP was a Gaseteria? Here are some photos of it prior to its name change thanks to the NYPL.
The SoHo BP gas station has closed
One of Manhattan's most recognizable gas stations, the former Gaseteria at Houston and Lafayette (now labeled with BP), is closing at the end of this month. The BP gas station has a long history of occupying that corner of coveted real estate (since the 1930s!) and its closure will follow the closure of the adjacent Puck Fair.
When all the buildings there close, what will take its place is a 80,000 square foot offie building designed by COOKFOX. Here are some photos I snapped of the place before it disappeared completely.
