NYC Department of Records: Brooklyn's Bedford Ave and Fulton Street in the early '90s
Reminiscing about old New York? You're probably thinking of street scenes like this one shot in the early '90s along Bedford Ave and Fulton Street in Brooklyn. An odd historical upload but appropriate I guess given that it belongs to the NYC Department of Records. Do they do this sort of thing regularly?
The life and death of Brooklyn, as told through Bedford Avenue
Wow, VICE is on a roll here (although I guess I watched their "Streets by VICE" episodes backwards -- I saw the Sunset Blvd. one first). Here's another episode of this fantastic series where VICE goes through the history of a place as told through one particular street. For Brooklyn, it's Bedford Avenue, a name that is synonymous with Williamsburg but one that also carries a rich history that spreads way beyond Williamsburg's borders.
This episode is a short history lesson on the people and cultures that spread throughout Brooklyn in little communities and talks about how the gentrification of Brooklyn as a whole is driving these people further and further away from NYC.
PS: That skate portion was horrendous though.
