Beyonce sued for $26 million for unauthorized use of Messy Mya voice in "Formation" music video
Beyonce has just been hit with a $26 million lawsuit over unauthorized use of LGBTQ rapper Messy Mya's voice which was used as a sample in the song "Formation". Messy Mya can be heard in the Formation music video and song saying "I like that" as Beyonce rides half sitting out of a car.
I always enjoy finding out where these samples in songs come from.
My Favorite Music Videos of 2016: Beyonce - Formation
Along with the album (which I'll write about another time), I really do think this music video (and subsequently the entire album-movie release) was one of the best pieces of art coming out of music in 2016.
This is just an excuse to post this music video again and relive some of my own memories from New Orleans (a place I hold dearly).
Beyonce's "Formation" music video is simply amazing
You have to watch this. Beyonce's latest music video, "Formation", is a commentary on so many things -- Hurricane Katrina, being black in America, New Orleans, fashion, abandonment. It's all there. And it's packaged into a very visually stimulating music video. For Black History Month, this is a fantastic way to celebrate black culture in the states.
