Revisiting the original DOS DOOM video game

I love this retro-game review of DOOM by Lazy Game Reviews. Of course, the latest version of the classic FPS just came out last week and while you may be more inclined to watch reviews of that game instead, this one is worth your time too I think.

Amazing things that I never knew about the original DOOM game are shown in this video. Like the box art and the fact that it was shareware (I either never knew this or didn't care as a kid). Anyway, just a nice little stroll down memory lane...

DOOM has a Terminator 2 Easter Egg

So DOOM came out today which is probably why you've been seeing a ton of DOOM-related videos everywhere (trust me, even as a non-gamer, they're all pretty cool if only to see how far computer game graphics have come).

Anyway, I just heard about this neat little Terminator 2 easter egg in the game where if you fall into a vat of hot magma, your player will eventually die and raise a thumbs-up to the camera as an homage to the T-800's character ending his life at the end of Terminator 2.

A visit to id Software (November 1993)

This is pretty cool archival footage of the id Software offices in November 1993. For those who don't know, id Software is the game developer that made the iconic first-person shooter game DOOM. The video here shows early employees of id Software as well as a not-yet-finalized version of the DOOM video game which would be released very soon after this video was recorded.

In 1993, Dan Linton, owner of a hugely successful BBS called Software Creations, visited Texas and made his way to id Software. This is the footage he recorded one night in November 1993.
Shown are several of id's employees at the time: Jay Wilbur, Shawn Green, John Romero, Dave Taylor, Sandy Petersen and Adrian Carmack. Bobby Prince was visiting to finish the music and create the sound effects.
This video has 21 minutes of me playing DOOM before the sound effects were put in as well as some early deathmatching with Shawn Green.

DOOM live-action video game trailer could point towards a future movie

StarCraft did it. WarCraft did it. Halo did it. You get the idea. All were video games first and then somebody decided to make a live-action/CGI version of the game for fun only to have it get picked up eventually for a full feature-length film. If this DOOM live-action trailer for the May 13, 2016 release of the game signals anything, I hope that it means we might see a full DOOM movie sometime in the future. PLEASE. This looks good.
