David Guttenfelder talks about the importance of social media and photography in North Korea
I love David Guttenfelder's work. I came to know him initially from his images from within North Korea at a time when hardly any other Western news agency was given access to the country in such a way. For several years, Guttenfelder captured not only the parts of what North Korea wanted him to see, but also some parts that were meant to be shielded from media completely. Guttenfelder talks about his process and how social media, particularly Instagram, played a huge part in telling the story of North Koreans through his photos.
Photojournalist David Guttenfelder makes an amazing ad for Squarespace
Watch this wonderful ad featuring one of my favorite photojournalists David Guttenfelder. I remember first hearing of Guttenfelder for his work deep inside North Korea. He was one of the first photographers I can remember who published work continuously from inside North Korea (or soon thereafter following each of his trips). He has gotten closer and more intimate images than any other photographer I can recall and his work is obviously top-notch.
The ad here is made for Squarespace's Field Stories website which is audio commentary on select photographs from Guttenfelder's archives. Take some time out of your day and have a look.
