M.I.A. releases new album called AIM
MIA has released what she says is her last album (I don't believe this at all). The album can be enjoyed in full on Spotify and so far I'm finding it a bit hard to find a stand-out track. I always enjoy the ways in which MIA mixes sound effects with unconventional samples and this album is full of those. It's the musical part that seems to be lacking (hard to hum any of these tracks!).
But I love MIA regardless. It's not like this one let-down is going to tarnish her already amazing repertoire of songs released over the course of 5 albums.
PS: New International Sound - Pt. 2 is a good track.
Weirdcore visuals and animations
Yesterday I posted M.I.A.'s music video for "XXXO" and did a little digging and it turns out that some of those visuals were not created by MIA herself but by somebody by the name of weirdcore. Not surprisingly, Weirdcore also did the visuals for Santigold's latest album (see below). I can only describe this visual style as early internet-era crudeness. I like it though and I want to see more.
Monday Music: M.I.A. - XXXO
Dang, this was 6 years ago. This music video for "XXXO" is great because it so eloquently sums up M.I.A.'s visual style from her early Myspace days.
