Emilio Gomariz's colorful artwork made with Mac OS X Finder
Emilio Gomariz's 2009 project called Macintosh Lab consists of digital artwork he has made using Mac OS X's shortcut keys (specifically the screengrab keyboard shortcut). The images are quite beautiful in their composition and if you're down with filling your screen with rainbows, you won't be disappointed here.
You can see more of his creations here from the same series. Those colored folder labels do come in handy!
How to make your own Fusion drive in Mac OS
I was at the Apple Store getting my old MacBook Pro fixed and the Genius Bar tech told me that there's a way to make your own Fusion drive in Mac OS using Terminal commands. I had no idea! That's pretty fantastic and would definitely clean up my Finder sidebar.
The instructions on how to do that are here. When I get the time to sit down and reformat, I think I'll do this. The OWC Data Doubler in my old MBP has been highly useful but combining it into one drive would just clean things up for me. I like the idea!
How to fix slow and unresponsive Google Contacts syncing on Mac OS X El Capitan
As you already know from a previous post, I recently upgraded to OS X El Capitan. Everything has been fine so far except for Google Contacts syncing. I don't use iCloud for much anymore since I signed my life away to Google services and up until the previous Mac OS X release, Google Contacts syncing seemed to work just fine.
Then something happened in El Capitan. Not sure if it's on Google's end or on Apple's end, but something changed and now whenever I make changes to a contact or add a contact, the Contacts app goes unresponsive for a good minute or so (sometimes crashing altogether).
HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT
Go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts
Uncheck "Contacts" for the Google account
Click the "+" to add a new account
Select "CardDAV"
Set Account Type to "Manual"
User Name is FULL Gmail address
Password is password, or a new app-specific password if 2-factor authorization is "ON" for Google
Server Address is "google.com"
And that's all! Now your Contacts on Mac OS X El Capitan are as responsive as ever!
