MagSafe charges 2x slower than 20W wired charger
I’m not entirely surprised, but that real-world time difference — 28 minutes wired to 1 hour MagSafe — is a big striking difference.
If you want a wired charger, I recommend this 30W GaN charger from Anker or this slightly cheaper 20W charger.
Goodbye MagSafe
So it's finally here. Apple sent out press invites today for an October 27th event that many are saying is going to introduce new MacBooks and MacBook Pros to the masses. It's about time. But one of the things that seems like a sure thing already is the sad farewell to the MagSafe power connector.
Of all the innovations that Apple has brought to laptop computers in the past decade, the MagSafe (and the MagSafe 2) are the most important to me. When it was introduced in 2006, the MagSafe made all the fears of tripping over a power cord and making your laptop fly across the room a thing of the past. Few laptop manufacturers have introduced an alternative as useful as this power connector and if the roadmap on current MacBooks are any indication, it looks like Apple is looking to drop MagSafe completely for USB-C power and data. This upcoming MacBook/MacBook Pro refresh looks to be about that time to drop MagSafe.
I will be so sad. The MagSafe was and is to this very day my favorite part of the Apple laptop experience. It still feels magical to just plop the connector on and off so easily. Magnets are magical!
Apple looks like it will drop MagSafe and SD card slot in MBP for USB-C
This makes me sad. The MagSafe was such an innovative and amazingly implemented peripheral/connector. Seeing it go will be very sad.
MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter
This is my life now. After years of having an older generation MacBook Pro, my recent purchase of a newer MBP has rendered my old chargers more or less useless. Almost. Now I just need to buy this $10 accessory to make things I already have work with things I just acquired. -_-
First they got rid of the T-shaped MagSafe chargers and now I have to buy this stupid accessory.
PS: My guess is that this may be the last generation of MacBook Pro's to use MagSafe. I have a feeling that Apple will get rid of the MagSafe charger and go more towards USB-C on all computers. That would be a shame. I often think the most innovative thing on Apple's laptops is the MagSafe charger.
