LinkNYC and its super-fast free Wi-Fi
A walk down a few popular neighborhoods in NYC will undoubtedly bring you face to face with LinkNYC's Wi-Fi kiosks. The city has made a major push to install these as quickly as possible and cover the city with free ad-free Wi-Fi access for every citizen. It's working. And it's working well, with speeds easily reaching college-level speeds. No longer do you have to go to the Apple store for free fast internet. Just sit at your local park, or camp out for a few minutes in front of a kiosk and enjoy these incredible speeds.
PS: NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo announced an initiative this morning for broadband access for all. LinkNYC seems to fall nicely into that idea.
MTA announces new buses with USB charging ports and Wi-Fi
The MTA couldn't get us an actual photo of the bus?
According to a recent press release from the MTA, the company will add about 2042 new buses to its fleet. Each bus will have USB charging ports and Wi-Fi and incorporate touch-screens for passenger information.
The first roll-out of these new buses will begin in Queens as early as 2nd and 3rd quarter of this year! New buses! Who doesn't like 'em?!
On a related note, look at this bus photo from 2010. I've never seen this type of bus before. It looks weird.
