Everything is fake now (jeans included)
Here is Levi's new technique to replicating a vintage jean on new jeans. Very weird.
LaserSharp Denim abrasion system
What a time to be alive. Watch as this laser etches distress marks onto this pristine pair of jeans.
3sixteen SL-140x Heavyweight Brown Weft
Just got these babies in a few weeks ago. Pretty stoked to see how these hard-as-cardboard jeans soften and fade over time (I've got 2 pairs of heavy-weight denim that are silky smooth now). The brown weft is new to me so I'm hoping the lines get real crispy on these.
Video of a denim production and distressing factory in Los Angeles
I don't know much about denim production, but I do know that it's possible to get these sick fades without the use of millions of gallons of water, washing, and sand paper (oh, and lots of workers). This is some classic American consumerism at play here. That is, wanting the look of extreme wear (sometimes not even) without actually putting in the effort to do so. It's a convenience many gladly pay for at the expense of good taste. Here's how one factory in Los Angeles makes those dreams come true.
The history of the 501 Jean
Levi's released this neat documentary about the classic 501 Jean. The documentary is narrated by Ramblin' Jack Elliott and interviews basically every type of person who has ever put on a pair of 501 jeans. All sorts of people are represented -- skaters, musicians, fashion designers, celebrities, weirdos, artists, miners, travelers, etc. You get the idea. The 501 jeans are the jeans for the every day folk. You and me. And this huge ad for them makes me really want to get a pair again.
3sixteen SL-220x Double Black update (because you care)
Updates on denim. I know that's why you all come here. Well, here you have it, the 4-month update of my 3sixteen SL-220x double black denim jeans. I took advantage of some nice West Coast light to do this so enjoy those fades to gray!
But seriously, I love the way these are breaking in. My wallet imprint is starting to show and the belt loop on the back has tons of wear from biking and backpacking.
PRO TIP: If you want to break in jeans very quickly, put them on and go bike riding. It'll loosen up real fast.
