Aukey USB-C Hub for MacBook
So funny, I was just raving about this little Aukey USB-C Hub adapter for MacBook laptops and today 9to5Toys is offering a limited-time coupon to get one for just $35.99. It is the MacBook accessory I carry with me that makes my life so much easier. Works well, very solid, and won’t break your ports or the bank.
Click here to buy and then use the coupon “XY55B229” (expires August 12, 2019).
The QacQoc USB-C hub gives you legacy ports and charges your MacBook
I don't own a laptop with integrated USB-C, but I know that one day I probably will. There's been a lot of talk lately about how USB-C forces people to have dongles upon dongles at their disposal just to use some legacy devices. I'll probably be one of those people when the time comes.
Anyway, I was watching the video below from Dave Lee talking about the 2016 13" MacBook Pro (normal function keys) when I noticed this great looking USB-C attachment: The QacQoc USB-C hub. This attachment sits flush with the MacBook and gives you 2 USB 3 slots, a USB-C connection, and the all-important SD Card slot. And more importantly, you can still charge your MacBook through it. Cool. Check it out here.
Grand opening of Calatrava's Oculus WTC Transportation Hub
Here it is! Santiago Calatrava's "Oculus", the main centerpiece of the $4 billion WTC Transportation Hub. It officially opened to the public today in a limited form. Construction is still very much going on at the moment but the skeleton of the structure is more or less finished. Beautiful, sure, but nothing new for Calatrava.
Lots of mixed commentary, obviously, about this new grand structure with some people rightfully saying that this was a huge waste of public taxpayer money.
The first thing you notice when you walk in through WTC building 4 is that the Oculus is very much a commercial show-off piece for Westfield (they own the property). It isn't a civic or public space like Grand Central despite its name as a transportation hub. A sad fact honestly given how much this place cost.
In my opinion the whole thing feels...cheap. I'm struggling to find the right word. Maybe cheap isn't it. Maybe it is. But I feel like maybe that shouldn't be one of the words that comes to mind when thinking about this project.
