YouTube is recommending violent videos to kids

There's been a lot of talk lately about how horrible YouTube's recommendation algorithm is, but none so far have really made me care that much until now. YouTube's own algorithm is putting violent videos right in front of kids' faces. Maybe letting a robot choose what videos we watch isn't such a great idea.

The videos in question pop up on the YouTube Kids app and are often disguised as cartoons. The article linked above shows an example that starts off pretty innocent looking but then turns into a shoot-out between characters.

The answer to gun violence in schools is NOT to attack the shooter with pencils

Wow. Just wow. I cannot believe that there is a segment of society that truly believes that the answer to gun violence is to teach kids how to attack the gun holder with books, pencils, and school supplies. What world are we living in?

Everything that this guy teaches kids to do is virtually un-doable unless you know beforehand that an attacker is coming into your classroom. I mean, think about it -- are kids perpetually armed with books and pencils at hand aimed towards the door IN CASE OF EMERGENCY? No. Kids are (or should be at least) focused on learning and not splitting their energy wondering if a gunman is going to rush into the classroom. It's not up to the kids to attack and save their own lives. I think that would come instinctively but actively engaging an attacker most certainly puts more kids at risk of being hurt.
