Red Hook toxic ball fields
Hmm, I was here not too long ago and wondered why the ballfields were all closed despite warmer weather. It turns out that they are toxic. The Parks Department has let the fields get overgrown in order to deter kids from jumping in and playing despite locked fences.
A virtual tour of the smallest parks in Los Angeles
I wish I had remembered this when I was in LA last week. I feel like I'm coming across so many things to see and do in LA now that I'm back in NYC. :(
Well, at least this one involves virtual reality so that I can sort of feel like I'm there. The LA Times has compiled a list of the smallest parks in Los Angeles each complete with a VR tour to put you right smack dab in the middle of it all. While officially designated as a park, some of these are straddling the term very loosely. I'd probably just call them patches of grass and dirt rather than a park (maybe even landscaping). But hey, if the City of LA wants to call it that, then so be it. Check them out here.
