The standalone Screengrab app in macOS Mojave
Wow. I had no idea. If you open the app directly from the Utilities folder, you can change a bunch of settings without going into Terminal (like where the images are saved and disabling the small thumbnail before the screengrab is saved).
How to change the default screengrab save location in macOS
There used to be apps for this I guess, but I cannot remember what they were. Thank goodness Terminal still exists.
ScreenShot PSD makes layered Photoshop files of your Mac screengrabs
I take a lot of screengrabs for work. A lot. And sometimes, I need those screengrabs to be layered PSD files so that I can move items around and not worry about what's in front of what or where any particular window is located. I used to use an app called Layers to do this but it looks like its abandonware now so I went in search of another.
I found this: ScreenShot PSD. It's also a bit dated (last updated in 2012) but it seems to do the job just fine and at least it's on the Mac App Store for free. Can't beat that I suppose. Glad to have this type of app back on my computer.
How to change Mac screenshot file format in OS X
Just posting this for myself for future reference. I finally changed my screengrab format from PNG to JPG. Saving myself on crazy big file sizes with this Retina display.
