Big sign on 5th Avenue
They change this up every once in a while, so if you're in the neighborhood of 35th Street and 5th Avenue, go check it out.
Eye-catching lost dog sign in Silver Lake
I hope I never have to resort to this, but if it ever came down to it, I now have a template for a pretty eye-catching lost dog sign.
One interesting thing about this photo is that the sign was photographed in Silver Lake but the phone number is a NYC cellphone area code. I guess a transplant lost a dog. But given the abundance of lost dog signs in LA (seriously, there are a lot of them and can people stop losing their dogs please?) this one stands out as one of the best.
Recapturist documents the disappearing neon signs of America
I am obsessed with this website called Recapturist by photographer Bill Rose. It's a very organized catalog of retro neon signs, many of which have been abandoned, all across America. Bill has no definitive list of signs to get through, but his efforts so far have captured the beauty and elegance of these neon lights that are slowly being replaced by other signage and LEDs.
As you can imagine, he's traveled a lot. There's even a handy map of sign locations if you want to trail him in his search.
