Tunnel dwellers of NYC's West Side
This is another old video that I just happened to re-watch tonight about homeless people living on what was then the desolate West Side of Manhattan. Today, this area is on the verge of becoming a bustling destination with the new Hudson Yards development in full swing and the new 7 line extension at 34th Street.
Towards the end of this video, there's a glimpse of a ramp that I realized I've been down many times before -- and until now I never connected that it was the same ramp seen in this short video. Security at this location was pretty laid back then and it still is today. Easy opening for the casual explorer.
Las Vegas tunnel people
I tried to find these tunnel dwellers earlier this month in Las Vegas but I was unsuccessful. Yes, I am a weirdo.
Watch these idiots nearly get hit by a train while going into the Chatsworth tunnel
The Chatsworth Tunnel, located behind Chatsworth Park North in California is an active train tunnel. It is easy to access from many videos posted on YouTube and elsewhere and occasionally, idiots manage to almost get themselves killed while going into it.
Remembering Brooklyn, the woman who lived in the tunnels underneath Riverside Park
I was over here today and spent some time thinking of the various times I've gone into this place and all the articles, stories, videos, and books I've read about the so-called "mole people" living down here. It's easy to forget about the history of this place especially now that the area above the tunnel has been revitalized. But if you look down into the grates or through the fences in some of the granite/stone storage buildings, you might see some remnants of a life long gone. Maybe, you might even see Brooklyn's old home (I know where it is).
