A review of the first ever webcam
This is the Connectix QuickCam. It was the first mass-market webcam and it shot only in black and white. The 8-Bit Guy revisits it with stories of how it introduced him to digital photography back in the day and he explains a little trick he used to use to make this black and white camera take color photos. If I'm not mistaken, NASA uses a similar method to create color photos of Mars.
NeuralTalk helps this computer read images in real-time through a webcam
Oooh, talk about freaky! Here's a live demo of NeuralTalk, a computer algorithm that reads a scene and interprets what's in the scene for a computer to understand. If you've used Google Photos lately, you'll know a little bit about this type of information system as Google Photos uses a similar algorithm to figure out what exactly is in your photos so that you can search them even if they aren't tagged.
What's interesting to see here is how NeuralTalk switches between the descriptions as the webcam it's connected to moves.
