Should I buy this handwriting robot?
This is the AxiDraw V3. It costs $475 and is available now for purchase. I want one.
The Most Dangerous Writing App erases your progress if you stop typing
I tried to write this entire post body using The Most Dangerous Writing App. But then it erased it. But thankfully, I took a screengrab of the page before it went all red.
The Most Dangerous Writing app is a panic-inducing writing space that lets you compose your thoughts and erases it if you get distracted or stop typing.
The AxiDraw V3 writing robot is now available
I remember posting about the AxiDraw on an earlier version of Doobybrain but I never followed the progress of this custom hand-writing robot and had no idea that the company behind it, Evil Mad Scientist, was on version 3 of the device.
For $475, you can create works of art with all sorts of writing tools without even putting in the effort. And if you do a lot of repetitive writing tasks (like signing your name or addressing envelopes), you can turn that tiresome process into an automated one with the AxiDraw V3!
How manuscripts were made
The Getty Museum uploaded this awesome video showing how manuscripts were made before modern writing and printing technology. The video goes into how parchment was made (a very tedious process) and then goes into how a quill is made (a very tedious process) and then describes how the scribe would write (a very tedious process) and then explain how pages were decorated (a very tedious process) and then explains how the completed parchments were bound together (a very tedious process).
It's a very tedious process but one with a beautiful result!
