Slow To Show: Lowriding in Odessa, Texas
Here's a nice op-doc from The New York Times about a small group of lowriders based in Odessa, Texas. Nothing but some good eye-candy, that's all.
The 10-year-old Ford GT is rising in value
By now, the Ford GT is somewhere around 10 years old. It is somewhat eclipse by a newer 2nd generation Ford GT (which looks equally impressive) but for some odd reason, the original GT has been keeping its value, often selling for much more than it was bought for. That's normal for exotics I guess, but not really normal for Ford vehicles in general.
It's amazing to me though that behind all that power and beauty lies the same knobs and levers as a Ford Focus of that time. I guess that's why people don't expect Ford vehicles to rise in value after leaving the lot.
How the drill on the Mars Curiosity rover works
Wow. This is a long video but I guarantee this will be the only time you'll find talk of a drill being anything but boring. This video explains in quite some detail how the drill arm and drilling mechanism of the Mars Curiosity rover works. How it starts digging, how it digs, and how it saves samples for analyzation after retrieval. It all seems rather elementary, but then you remember that this is a robot very far away from earth with the constant possibility of error in which no human can intervene. So if something does go wrong, NASA has to figure out how to basically tell the robot to fix itself with whatever tools it has all by itself on the Martian surface.
Backwards drag racing is a thing and it looks awesome
I found something to add to the bucket list. Backwards drag racing. Either as a participant/driver or as a spectator. I don't even care. Just get me to one of these.
Who is wrong here? The tailgater or the brake-checker?
Ok, discussion time. Watch the video above of a guy brake checking a driver that is tailgating him. Who is wrong here? The man driving too slow in the passing lane or the guy tailgating?
GO.
Those '90s decals on this pickup truck
I won't ruin the surprise, but I have a post down the line about some jazz decals and some infamous '90s jazz cups. This isn't part of that design but it's certainly part of that aesthetic.
