BuzzFeed vs Trump
Great long-form article from The Verge about how BuzzFeed News is aggressively pushing the news reporting boundary in an increasingly hostile and litigious Trump administration.
Apple Cafes and the promise of the digital future
Really interesting backstory about the alternate future where Apple Cafes would have existed as a social hub of buzzing internet activity!
Google Voice gets a much-needed refresh
I don't see this yet on my own account, but I am so excited for this update to Google Voice. Not only does the web interface sport a new look but the mobile apps are finally current with the times. Much better SMS, GROUP MESSAGING TOO, and hopefully (crossing fingers here) tighter integration with other Google services.
The man behind the Comic Sans font
Vincent Connare, folks! This is the guy who made the glorious Comic Sans font! I once wrote an entire report using this font and I don't regret it!

The Miami Police Department is vlogging their work days like any other YouTuber
I have to admit that this is a little weird to watch. I am so used to police departments not being transparent like this but the Miami Police Department has a number of videos on their YouTube channel where they literally just vlog their daily work like any other vlogger on YouTube. It makes police work seem so casual which is a bit jarring but also a welcome feeling.
The video above details the day of a K-9 unit.
The video below is about the bomb squad. And there are so many more interesting ones. I kind of wish more police departments did this.
Here's one of the police helicopter.
How China is changing the internet
This is the 2nd big news outlet article I've read in recent months pointing to the fact that America as we know it is no longer the leader in the digital tech revolution. That leader is ever-increasingly becoming China. With a huge population and a sort of pseudo-closed-system that can be used as a testing bed for apps and new technology, China is well on its way to dictating how the web might look for the next decade to come. The real question though is how this will change China.
