macOS Big Sur no longer has Target Disk Mode

I haven’t used macOS Big Sur yet and likely won’t for a few months, but already I’m learning a lot from Arstechnica’s full-on review of the OS. The new OS from Apple no longer has Target Disk Mode which was a very convenient way to mount an entire computer as an external drive to another computer for incredibly fast file transfer. It is instead replaced with Mac Sharing Mode which only works over SMB network protocol resulting in less than ideal transfer speeds. I can imagine cloning to be vastly different on this OS.
