Coffee leaf rust is killing a lot of coffee plants around the world
If you're wondering why you've seen more Robusta coffee blends in cafes lately, part of that reason (other than it being cheaper and easier to farm) is that a fungus known as "coffee leaf rust" is killing the world's supply of good coffee. This fungus stops nutrients from distributing in the coffee plant and eventually kills it. The robusta species of coffee plants is less susceptible to this fungus.
