Tootsie Rolls once helped save troops in war

What? This is one of those things that I'm having a hard time believing is true despite the video coming from an otherwise reputable channel. I feel like this is one of those "amazing" stories that got passed down over a few generations until it became "Tootsie Rolls saved the troops!".

So did Tootsie Rolls really seal bullet holes and save the troops from starvation in sub-zero temperatures near the Chosin Reservoir? Maybe. Well, quite possibly, yes. But honestly, I haven't done enough research to satisfy my doubt about this story. It's possible that I just don't like Tootsie Rolls that much and find it hard to believe that this candy can do anything but taste a little nasty.
