The new animated GIF renaissance

OMG! I've been meaning to find some time and reason to write about this fantastic podcast episode from Reply All about the animated GIF juggernaut, Animation Factory! And now, Vox Media has given me a supplemental video to fill the void!

Here is a great summary of the journey of the humble animated GIF in the not-so-long internet history. From really jagged and terrible-looking globe GIFs to the 3-second screengrab of a YouTube video, animated GIFs have come a very long way from just a graphic on a website to an incredibly valuable expressive medium on the internet. I like GIFs. You should too!
