Geocities still exists as a 652GB torrent file
This makes me happy. I guess I never followed up on my own about what was going on with the whole GeoCities shutdown back in 2009. I remember there being quite a big collaborative effort to save all the data on GeoCities in order to preserve its history. I was all for it. GeoCities was the birthplace of the personal homepage. It made personal webpages attainable and contributed in large part to the spread of animated GIFs and an aesthetic that has recently made a big comeback with vaporwave.
Anyway, if you want to download the 652GB file, you can do so freely via The Pirate Bay.
Or, if you're like me, you can browse the GeoCities archive online.
