Why hasn't Canon jumped onto the vintage camera craze?

I'm about to board a plane so I wanted to highlight this article real quick. There's an interesting comment piece over at The Verge that I totally agree with. Essentially it asks why Canon hasn't made a digital camera based off of their very popular AE-1 film camera. With the way vintage/retro cameras have skyrocketed in poularity recently (most notably from Fujifilm and Olympus, but also from Nikon), it is very weird from a consumer standpoint why Canon hasn't jumped onto this bandwagon.
