GoPro mount on a bicycle

I guess this is the first time I've ever mounted a GoPro on my MSC Rain bike. I've done it before on my old Kilo but for whatever reason stopped recording GoPro videos once I got this newer bike. I've traditionally used a bicycle mount for the GoPro but found it to be quite flimsy. Here, I have the GoPro mounted using a roll-bar attachment. It's much sturdier and on this particular stem and handlebar setup, it leaves enough room for me to turn freely and record from a vantage point that is centered to my steering. I like that.

DZR Shift sneakers - Burrito Breath edition

Been wearing these DZR Shift shoes for the past few weeks. They are part of DZR's larger line of cycling-centered products which also include other shoes, clothing, tools, and bike accessories. All together, making DZR a sort of one-stop-shop for general cycling needs.

The Shift comes in 3 colors and is meant for flat-pedaled bicycles (no clips) and is perfect for the setup I have on my own MSC bike. Riding with these on platform pedals is comfortable and grippy. My only gripe is that I wish the rubber was a bit more grippy on asphalt (but don't get me wrong, it wasn't like I was sliding around on ice or anything -- I just wish it offered more stopping power if I were to drag my feet on the ground).

But really, these DZR shift sneakers are pretty good. It's a low profile sneaker with no frills. And depending on the colorway, the interior lining is drawn by one of these three artists: Burrito Breath, Wakako and D Young (mine was Burrito Breath and I wouldn't have it any other way).

An added plus is the neat chainlink footprint this shoe has if you were to step in mud or sand. Something neat to leave behind for those following in your path.

Sizing is normal and fit is comfortable. Really nothing bad to say about these. Check out more photos and information here and pick up a pair for $79.

Mott Street Cycles to close their store at the end of September

I'm feeling a little bittersweet at the moment as I put this post together. Last week, Mott Street Cycles (or MSC for short), the NYC-based bike brand that helped usher in a revitalized Chinatown/NoLita neighborhood, announced that they were going to shut their brick and mortar store at the end of September.

The news comes at the company's 6th year in business, a huge feat considering the fickle nature of the bike industry and how quickly it devours upstart bike companies like MSC. I had the rare opportunity to see this company sprout from the minds of its founders and do its part to foster a closer and more engaged biking community in NYC. And while it is sad to see the store shutter, I do think the the longterm effects of what MSC brought to the cycling community will linger for years to come.

Everyone at MSC is family to me and I'm glad I got to be a part of this adventure with them. Looking forward to their next!

If you or somebody you know needs a bike or any bike-related accessories, be sure to hit up the store before September as they are having massive markdowns on almost everything. Tell them Dooby sent ya!

PS: Over the next couple of days, I'll probably revisit some good MSC memories in my photo collection. Stay tuned!

The Little Red Lighthouse

I rode approximately 24 miles with my sister the other day all the way to NYC. On the way I stopped at the famed Little Red Lighthouse right under the George Washington Bridge. I've been here plenty of times but I've never really had a good photo of myself here. Now I do.
